The wonderful book The Fantastic Flight of the Silver Dart tells the story of the Aerial Experiment Association (A.E.A) founded by Alexander Graham Bell and his wife, Mabel Bell. Through a lyrical poem, the author takes the readers along with a friendly little mouse and teaches them about experiments leading to the creation of the aircraft that achieved the first powered flight in Canada, the Silver Dart.
Author Linda Brand, a full-time Interpretation Officer at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, has crafted this story so that young readers can share in celebrating the hundredth anniversary of the event that launched a century of achievements in Canadian aviation.
“The children were fascinated by the history and were
able to recall the events, dates, places for a long time after
reading it.”
Ms. Rosa Barcotti, Kanata Research Park Family Centre, Ottawa, Ontario
